Black History Poetry Project Rubric

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE RUBRIC FOR YOUR CLASS PERIOD AND MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THIS ENTIRE POST. THERE ARE TWO RUBRICS CONTAINED IN THIS POST. THIS PROJECT IS DUE WEDNESDAY, MARCH, FOURTH (3/4/09).

PERIODS: 3 & 4

Research an African-American poet and create a book to showcase the talents of that writer. Your book must include the following and has the following point totals:

____ 25 pts. Front Cover: Must be a hand drawing, cannot be a photocopy or internet picture (10pts.), must be in color/colored (5 pts.), must have a title (5 pts.), must be legible (5 pts)

____ 10 pts. Table of Contents: page numbers (5 pts.) and description (5 pts.)

____ 90 pts. Three significant pieces of work by your poet (30 pts. each piece): Title of work (5 pts.), Source (5 pts.), piece of work and its significance (20 pts)

____ 50 pts. Original Poem created by you and inspired by a poem from your poet: original poem – must be two or more stanzas and must be 10 or more lines (25 pts.) and analysis – explain the text connection to your author’s piece that inspired you to write your original piece.

___ 25 pts. Using a collage, an imovie, PowerPoint, Keynote etc…, analyze and show the connection between the author’s tone in his/her poems and the time period in which he/she wrote. Research the time period in which the author wrote and make a connection between the types of poems or the themes in the author’s poetry and the specific time period. Take into account the author’s view of society and society’s view of the author in that particular time period. Demonstrate this connection using a visual presentation. Be creative.
